How to Register your Business Name

So you've finally decided that you had it with waking up very early in the morning and braving the daily commute, spending the rest of the day stressed out due to your demanding boss or client, then possibly having to do overtime work before you are finally allowed to leave, which means a couple of more hours on the road commuting back home. Anyone who has ever worked does so because they have to, not because they want to. Sure, there are those who enjoy their job, but those are few and far between, You have decided now is the time to be your own boss and start your own business.

Once you have decided what business you want to do, the next step is coming up with a name and register it with the Department of Trade and industry or DTI. But why would you want to register your business name? Well for starters, you want to differentiate your business with the rest of your competitors, and there are a LOT of competitors out there offering the same products and services. So how do you do that? By building up your brand, silly. Look, the reason why people flock to Jollibee is not because of their burgers or fried chicken are so exceptionally delicious that you can't find anywhere else. In fact, I am willing to bet that someone, somewhere out there will swear on their mothers grave that their fried chicken taste better than Jollibee. The reason why people love Jollibee is because of the brand, a brand that has built its reputation over the years and has associated itself with the Filipino family, culture, celebration and togetherness and that's what sells. So lets register your business name with DTI.

If you are at least 18 years old, you can register your business with DTI online by going to this website. Here, you can apply for a new business name, renew your business name, request for certification and you can even inquire about your transaction reference number. Payments can be made online tru Bancnet or via GCash. You can also make payments by visiting DTI's office in 361 Senator Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Makati City and paying through their tellers. Once your business name has been approved, you can either download your business name documents online or pick it up at the DTI office in the aforementioned address.
